چکیده

During basic education in veterinary medicine, anatomy is the most extended topic, because the various species differ substantially concerning shape and topology of organs. The same is true for the blood supply and nervous systems. Unlike in human anatomy therefore different atlases are necessary for the respective species. In addition, a veterinarian needs thorough anatomical knowledge is necessary, because he performs in many cases surgical interventions. Thus interactive 3D-models which on the on hand allow learning anatomy and on the other hand the rehearsal of interventions are perfectly suited for education in veterinary medicine. Motivated by the Visible Human Project [1] the University of Munich has therefore initiated the Visible Animal Project [2] for creation of high resolution cross-sectional images of a dog. These images are used to build a highly realistic volume model of a dog. For this purpose we use the VOXEL-MAN system [3] developed for the generation of interactive 3D-atlases of the human body. This paper reports first results of the veterinary application.

Reporting an Experience: Improving the Feulgen Staining Technique for Better Visualizing of Nucleus

Among different staining methods used to demonstrate the nuclear abnormalities, Feulgen is one of the most reliable method. Feulgen staining is specific, sensitive method for evaluating the DNA damages. It has been shown that using non-DNA specific stains for monitoring the nuclear anomalies lead to false-positive or false-negative results. From self-experience, immersing the stained slides in h...

Visualizing Musical Structure and Rhythm via Self-Similarity

This paper presents a novel approach to visualizing the time structure of musical waveforms. The acoustic similarity between any two instants of an audio recording is displayed in a static 2D representation, which makes structural and rhythmic characteristics visible. Unlike practically all prior work, this method characterizes self-similarity rather than specific audio attributes such as pitch...

Visualizing Animation Databases

We consider a repository of animation models and motions that can be reused to generate new animation sequences. For instance, a user can retrieve an animation of a dog kicking its leg (in air) and manipulate the result to generate a new animation where the dog is kicking a ball. In this particular example, inverse kinematics technique can be used to retarget the kicking motion of a dog to a ba...

Visualizing antibody-catalyzed retro-aldol-retro-Michael reactions.

We developed a visible detection system for antibody-catalyzed retro-aldol-retro-Michael reactions. Aldolase antibody 38C2 catalyzed the reaction of substrate 1 to provide 6-bromo-2-napthol that forms a visible colored azo dye with diazonium salts. This system has potential for the screening of novel catalysts.
